Choose the Right Album for Perfect Wedding Photos

One of the most important days of your lives as a couple will come and go, but you will always have the photos and videos of that happy event. But there’s one more step you need to take in order to treat these memories with the respect and care they deserve - place them in a photo album.

Without the perfect photo album to showcase and protect your precious photos, you’ll probably put them in a box in/on a cabinet somewhere and forget about them. Of course, some newlyweds prefer to keep their photos in digital format and create beautiful virtual collages that are easily accessible at the click of a button.

But, if you like photos in a physical format, you also have to choose the perfect wedding photo album - there’s no way around it! Luckily, we can give you a few tips to make sure your wedding experience is complete. 

You Want to Tell a Story

How would you describe your wedding day in one word? Choose any word you like (happy, mesmerising, adventurous, peaceful, etc.) and then look for a photo of you two that’s the embodiment of that word. This will be your wedding photo album cover photo!

Next, group all the photos you have for each stage of the wedding - getting ready, photoshoots before the wedding, portrait pictures with family and friends, getting married and getting with everyone at your dream venue where the party is about to start. Also, don’t forget your first dance, the cake and any other activities you had during the wedding. 

Once you have them all grouped up, choose several representative photos out of each group and place them in the album following the chronological order of the events. On the back cover, it would be nice to have a big photo of you two and the entire family.

Types of Photo Albums

So what type of photo album works best for your wedding photos? Regardless of the design you choose, make sure to focus on quality. This means good paper (glossy or matte), well-designed covers, and the photos are easy to place inside.

For a more accurate description of the perfect photo album, these are some of the designs that are a better fit for this type of occasion:

A Photo Book (Classic Style)

The photo book album is an all-time classic, but there’s a reason for that - it looks good and it protects your photos from dust and sun exposure. 

Some of these albums have glassine interleaves so you can touch the photo without leaving any damaging oils on them. Also, the form of fixing is either photo corners or double-sided tape. 

Quick tip: look for albums with acid-free pages so your photos won’t deteriorate over time. 

Slip-In Albums

If you don’t like playing with double-sided tape or glue, slip-in albums are a great option. They are available in various sizes (to fit all kinds of photos) and have clear plastic pockets where you can insert the photo.

Some even have a memo area where you can write notes, leave messages for your future selves, or ask loved ones to leave a comment. 

Flip Albums

If you’re looking for something light and easy to browse, a flip photo album may be the best option. They still follow the slip-in format, but you can place pictures on either side of the paper (front and back). This way, when you flip through it, you get to see more pictures at once!

Also, this type of photo album has a hard cover (great for the cover photos) and the plastic pouches are ideal for protection. However, make sure you place it in a dry environment since humidity can gather in the pouches and ruin your photos.

Customisation

Each of the three versions of the photo albums mentioned above can be customized to fit your wishes and make sure you are happy with the result. For instance, you can bind a photo book type in leather, to make it look more elegant. Also, you can choose a specific colour scheme to complement the theme you had at the wedding.

So, the most important thing to remember is that you shouldn't take the process of choosing your wedding photo album lightly! A few years from now, future you will appreciate the efforts present you are going through!
